Fabrication of Sylvatica’s custom light fixtures for the Art Walk is underway. These three foot diameter light spheres will be hung on a catenary system over the linear pedestrian corridor, providing colorful lighting and projected patterning on to the pavement.

Sylvatica’s Commercial Row Commons Plaza and Park near the intersection of 10th St and Peachtree St will activate a key block in central Midtown. Developed in collaboration with Midtown Alliance, a reconfigured Peachtree Place is providing a new civic and retail plaza, parklet, public art, streetscape and intersection improvements.

Sylvatica designed the Midtown MARTA Station plaza activation for the Midtown Alliance and MARTA. The work has just been completed and includes raised elements, pavement paint patterning, furniture and performance space, at the ground plane level of the Midtown MARTA Station and the GA Tech Trolley stop. The work was designed in collaboration with the vertical surface mural paintings by Andrew Catanese.
Join Midtown Alliance and MARTA leadership on the decked-out south plaza at the Midtown station to celebrate the completion of new enhancements. Take in the sights of the vivid mural on the station facade and try out the playful outdoor furniture on the plaza. Monday, July 23 – 10am

Urban Waterfronts: Integrating Landscape Architecture and Ecology in an era of climate change. The impacts of climate change are dramatic and everywhere. For city dwellers, they are most tangible and visible within the context of our changing urban water systems. This session will explore, through a series of compelling case studies, the role ecologists and Landscape Architects can play in helping to design our urban waterfronts for a dynamic new future.

Landscape architecture and ecological restoration are really different disciplines, but increasingly these fields are working together in fascinating ways. In a session at the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) conference in Madison, Wisconsin, Rutgers ecologist Steven Handel organized a group of landscape architects and restoration ecologists to discuss why collaboration is vital. In a mutual lovefest, the ecologists explained how landscape architects are important to work with because they communicate well with clients and communities.
